Hot melt adhesive sofa frame

A practical guide to hot melt adhesive sofa frame: what to check on site, what a photograph cannot establish, and what to write in your purchase specification.

A dining chair that passes a static load test on day one can fail at the leg joint after three months. The joint, not the member, is the weak point, and it is rarely specified.

How joints fail

Joint typeBehaviour
Dowel onlyGlued and dowelled. Adequate when factory-fresh; fails in heat and humidity cycles, and can be re-fitted loose.
Dowel plus glueThe standard residential approach.
Corner block plus boltMechanical fixing. Required for contract and hospitality work. Retrievable and inspectable.
Metal bracket onlyFastest, and visually unacceptable for solid wood dining furniture.

What to look for

Why this is a contract-order requirement

Residential chairs are used by a household. Contract chairs are used by strangers all day, moved frequently, and often stacked. The joint is the difference between a chair that lasts one year and one that lasts five.

BIFMA X5.1 addresses this through the leg strength and stability tests; EN 12520 addresses it through the static load test on the assembled chair. sofa verification covers where these sit in a dining furniture verification.

What to write in your specification

"Leg-to-seat joints secured with visible mechanical fixings and a corner block of not less than 40 × 25 × 20 mm. Dowel-only joints are a finding."

Common questions

How many units are inspected on a furniture order?

Under ISO 2859-1 general level II, a lot of 501 to 1,200 units is sampled at 80. A lot of 3,201 to 10,000 is sampled at 200. The report states the lot size, sample size and accept/reject numbers.

Can I verify goods without sending anyone to the factory?

Partially. A remote photo review can identify gross problems but cannot establish count, dimensions, materials or physical performance. Those require someone on site.

Do laboratory reports replace on-site inspection?

No. They answer different questions. A laboratory report tells you whether a product meets a standard. An inspection tells you whether these goods match what you ordered.

Verifying a furniture order?

We check your goods at the factory against your PI, your agreed specification and your approved sample. Three levels, published prices, report within 24 hours.
